Conveniently located in one of San Miguel's best residential areas, Casita Cambia sits on a quiet, tree-shaded, cobble-stoned side street, just a half-block from the bus stop (busses pass every 10 minutes to the town center or to the large shopping center on the hill). It is an easy six-block walk (15 inutes) north to the center of town, called the Jardin here in San Miguel.Or, you can walk six blocks to the west to a large grocery store. You will pass antique shops and art galleries, an exercise gym, several restaurants or the Instituto Allende on the way. The Instituto holds daily art and language classes, as well as weekly lectures and art showings.

The apartment at Casita Cambia is separate from the house. Step through the private entrance into the golden-hued entry hall, pass up the open stairs (openings provide glimpses of the owners' garden below), to the door to the dining room/kitchen of the apartment. Light and airy, the dining room has an ample wooden table and seating for six. There are windows on two sides of the room.

The kitchen is commodious, with a colonial beamed ceiling and a bank of windows overlooking the trees in the owners' back yard. Colorful blue and white tiles accent the custom-designed hood, full-sized stove and refrigerator and ample wood cabinets. A large skylight allows sunlight to pass directly onto the tile floor. Two chandeliers make this a pleasant place to be at all times of the day and night.

The large and comfortable bed/sitting room is furnished with new Italian-style couch and chairs and features a wood burning fireplace, king sized bed (or two twin beds if you prefer) oval accent window, and large windows overlooking the street. Heavy colonial beams adorn the ceiling, and a massive set of shelves off-sets the couch. Adjoining is a wonderful bath/dressing room with a wall of closets and a bidet. It is completely tiled in russet and white tiles and features a large tiled bathtub.

Up another flight of stairs, and you come to the striking outdoor living room / terrace / roof garden, with views of tiled rooftops, gardens, verdant hills, and, beyond the lake and purple mountains on the horizon, a marvelous sunset view. A roofed area, with comfortable full-length lounges provides a perfect place to relax and enjoy the incomparable weather of San Miguel... Cool in the summer, warm in the winter, and pleasant always, both day and night.

The owners have done all they can to provide a pleasant place for you to spend either your one week vacation or an extended stay of several months while you attend the near-by language or art schools, or write the great American novel. One of the owners is a certified teacher and native speaker of Spanish, who would be happy to tutor you at home.
