Welcome to Casa Galeria, the home of an internationally known sculptor of handmade paper art – many examples of which decorate this breathtakingly beautiful contemporary home two and a half blocks from the Jardin in the heart of San Miguel’s historic centro district. The artist/owner designed this house with meticulous attention to detail – from the gleaming high polish of the marble counters of its kitchen to the luminous ever-changing pattern of shadows created by the huge paper mobile--entitled "Hoop Dreams"--which hangs in the atrium above it.

On entering the front door, you are greeted by a sun-drenched reflecting pool, outlined by graceful papyrus and the occasional red orange flash of the koi who live within its depths. A keystone sculpture with a candle at its center faces the pool, and once through the interior glass front door, this same sculpture becomes a part of the design of the fireplace wall of the living room. A long leather sofa in a soft butterscotch color faces the fireplace with a view of the pond on the other side of the glass wall.

Opposite the fireplace, a long leather sofa in a soft butterscotch color faces the glass wall with a view of the reflecting pond. Numerous artworks and freestanding and hanging sculptures are placed around this soaring space. To the left of the fireplace is a conversational grouping of contemporary chairs and table. At the back is the kitchen, with its glamorous curved black marble counter-top and handsome Italian appliances bathed in sunlight pouring down from the third-story roof terrace. Tucked away behind the kitchen wall is a half-bath for guests.

Down a hallway on the first floor is the study/guest bedroom with large screen tv, a double-sized leather chaise lounge for reading or watching tv. The headboard of this custom made bed can be lowered for sleeping comfort to provide a guest bedroom. To the left of the study is a glass wall and sunny reading corner that overlook a bamboo garden. A full bath with wall sized mirror and vanity and a tub/shower adjoins the study/guest bedroom.

A graceful wide-stepped stairway to the left of the kitchen curves upward leading to the master bedroom, bath and studio on the second floor. The master bedroom has a queen sized bed, a television and adjoining dressing room and full bath with soaking tub and shower. To the right of the stairway landing is a desk and “work space” center of the house – art work surrounds this space and leads to the large studio and a deck beyond. The studio is a beautifully tranquil space, perfect for those wishing to write, paint or draw. A single sized couch in the studio provides a comfortable sleeping place for an unexpected extra guest. From the studio the wide-stepped stairway continues to curve around the atrium and takes you to the 3rd floor roof terrace. Immediately off this terrace is the laundry room with washer and dryer, and a tucked away corner with sink, table and chairs and barbecue. To the right of this area around the corner is the large roof deck terrace itself – a curving outdoor sectional faces a giant glass topped table, which in actuality is the skylight of the atrium. Farther along on the terrace are two sculpted chairs facing more art work and the fabulous view of San Miguel’s skyline and distant Picacho mountains.
