San Miguel is known for its Spanish-language and art schools. These schools cater to English speakers and often provide a list of apartments for long-term stays. You can wander past classrooms where weavers, sculptors, painters, ceramists, photographers, and students are at work. Much of the craftwork that San Miguel is known for sprang from this institute. The language office maintains a list of local families who rent rooms for stays of a month or more. The institute offers an MFA degree, and the school's credits are transferable to at least 300 colleges and universities in the United States and Canada; noncredit students are also welcome.
