Casa Mariposa – this especially charming two bedroom home takes its name from Mexico’s beautiful yellow and black butterfly. Casa Mariposa is located just a few minutes walk from El Jardin, the main town plaza with its famous “wedding cake” church, sidewalk cafes, art galleries, shops and cosmopolitan restaurants.

As you enter through an antique carved door you will walk through a leafy green arbor to the first floor courtyard. Here, off the courtyard, you will find Casa Mariposa’s two opulently comfortable bedroom suites– the first, with king-sized four-poster canopied bed, is decorated in beige and white tones with period antiques and lovely Spanish accessories. Its ensuite bath has beautifully tiled walls and a large bathtub with shower. The 3-story light well above the fireplace in the bedroom gives a magical light throughout the day. Across the hall is the second bedroom suite, with two four-poster single beds, also furnished in period antique furnishings and fine linens, with its own beautifully and whimsically decorated bath. No matter what the season of your visit, heated floors in winter and overhead ceiling fans in the warmer spring months ensure comfortable temperatures all the time.

The second floor of the house is one grand living space with dramatic boveda ceilings, large fireplace and brick floors covered in striking area rugs. An “L” shaped sectional provides seating for tv watching, reading and relaxing. The television, stereo and vonage phone and internet connection are located behind antique wood doors in the well-stocked bookcase. In the evening, romantic lighting in concealed niches set off an array of fascinating Mexican folkart santos. The kitchen has a Mexican stove, oversized frig, microwave and oven, with a cozy bar counter for casual meals and evening happy hour.

The third floor of Casa Mariposa is a jewel in itself with its breathtaking views of San Miguel, and a delightful greenhouse area with candlelit room for roofdeck open air dining that can seat up to 10. Again, heated floors and fireplaces allow for comfortable dining and lounging even on cooler evenings. There’s also a Jacuzzi or dipping pool that overlooks the terrace and the views of San Miguel—perfect for sunning during the day or sipping a frosted margarita at sunset!
