Cares simply drop away when you walk into this lovely, tranquil home built around a quiet flowering garden. Spacious elegant rooms have shining white marble floors, comfortable upholstered sofas and chairs, including many antique pieces and works of art by well-known Mexican and American painters.

Although Casa Tranquila is in the heart of the historic central district, just two blocks from El Jardin, you feel you have the best of both possible worlds – excellent location and nearness to shops, restaurants, art galleries and the main town square – yet you are at home in the quiet serenity of older, colonial times. Just off the living room there is a butler’s pantry with everything stored for easy entertaining, plus a pass-through bar – then onto the kitchen, with its magical Mexican tilework, new appliances, and, at the end of the kitchen, a dining nook for times when you choose not to breakfast or lunch in the garden patio! In addition there is a den/tv room off the living room, which also faces the tranquil garden.

Upstairs is another sitting room with desk and comfortable sofa – lots of light for reading or painting or sewing. The views from the second (and third) floor terraces are breathtaking, with all of San Miguel and the magnificent Picacho mountains at your feet.

The master bedroom with ensuite full bath has a king sized bed and a cozy fireplace, walk in closet and a sitting room with a comfortable chaise lounge for reading or napping. Next is the twin bedded guest room, a spacious softly pastel room with its own bath – and finally, another bedroom and bath, which has its own separate entrance reached from the garden (in case you have guests or teenagers who keep their own hours) and do not sturb the rest of the household.

Josefina is the housekeeper/maid and, joy of joys, a most wonderful cook! She works six days a week and keeps Casa Tranquila shining. The gardener comes 3 times a week to keep the lawn and flowers looking beautiful. There is a garage with space for one car.

Casa Tranquila is available from the end of April through the month of November each year.
