Upon entering, you leave colonial Mexico behind and enter Spain itself. The owners used their ancestor’s hometown of Tui, which is close to the Portugal border, as inspiration. Throughout the house are restful white walls and carefully chosen furnishings and accessories that enliven each space. Among them are antiques from various European countries, gorgeous Persian rugs, and wooden dining room chairs that contain the family’s coat of arms embroidered within them. If that weren’t enough the owner’s have included originals from Cuba, an acrobatic bronze sculpture by Jorge Marin, and paintings by contemporary Mexican and American artists.
The Spanish style continues throughout the layout as well. In the home are three bedroom suites that each contain a private bath. The first is the master suite. It has a Portuguese-style four poster king sized bed and is enlivened by a beautifully constructed boveda ceiling. The connected master bath has double sinks, granite counter-tops, and Roman-like bath and shower. Next, the second suite contains a queen sized bed with 18th century venetian headboard and and antique Susani bedspread. An ancient wooden door rescued from a ruined chapel separates the bedroom from the living room. Finally, the third suite features a pair of Mexican wrought-iron twin beds. Closet space for all three bedrooms is immense. All guests have plenty of space!
We are just 2.5 blocks from the Ramirez Market. There you'll find almost anything else you need. From there, then it's just another three short blocks to the Jardin, the epicenter of San Miguel's civic life. To live in Casa Galicia is truly to live in and with a very rich history.
